EAGLE BALLISTICS app review.
I've been using this app all winter alongside a Kestrel 5700 Elite AB. Shooting has been from around 500 yards to a mile. Ranging is with a Leica 3500.com and wind speed from the Kestrel. I'm not sponsored or employed by Barbourcreek or anyone else, just a long range enthusiast. I have a mile range to shoot on and the rifles used for testing are all custom rifles built by West Elk Precision. The two mentioned here generally shoot in the .3's. All have Schmidt Bender, March, or NF ATACR scopes. The most used is a 300 Norma Improved shooting 245 grain Berger EOL's at 3036 fps. The Kestrel has been very accurate but there were times when the solutions just weren't right. I used the custom drag models for BC's but again got too many solutions that were off so stuck with G7 BC's. A couple of specific examples summarize what I found. Shooting prairie dogs in Utah I ranged one at 1167 yards. Using data from the Kestrel I hit several shots a little high and left. Switching to data from EB I hit the target. The following day I had one ranged at 1121 yards. Using the EB data resulted in a first shot kill. Shooting at a mile there were frequently small but significant differences between the AB and EB solutions. Another frequently tested gun is a PRS rifle in 6BRA with an S&B mil scope. Again the two platforms were often identical or close enough not to matter, but at longer ranges, out to 1300 yards, there were sometimes up to .2 differences in their solutions. The EB app became the one I trusted as it was consistently correct. I also find the EB app to be more intuitive and easier to navigate. I never have to recalibrate the compass and making changes to existing data or entering new guns and data is quick and easy. There are a number of features to calculate and correct BC, to correct velocity if need be, to quickly set the distance between center of scope and bore, and a few other features I have yet to dig into. There are also several well executed YouTube videos accessible on the EB website that explain the app and how to access different features. The bottom line is the Eagle Ballistics app has gained my trust and when the Tract Toric rangefinding binoculars with the EB engine becomes available in March they will replace my Kestrel and Leica.
Nothing like it anywhere in the world !
I have been using applied ballistics for years. This app has given me more accurate numbers . I have been on target on first shots way more on kills ant target shooting past 1000 yards. Amazing app I don’t use anything else
From the truck to the bench and on steel at a 1000. Very user friendly and intuitive app. Sync’d to Vortex 5000 and Kestrel elite with zero issues. m.
